Regional Overview
The Columbus Region has been the recipient of the largest public capital investment project in the State of Georgia (Ft. Benning growth) and the two largest private capital investment projects in the state of Georgia (Aflac and Kia).
Due to the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) initiative currently underway at Ft. Benning over 11,000 new jobs will be added to the area during 2010-2012 with a capital investment of $3.5 Billion. Kia began production in November 2009, at its new 2.4 million square foot auto manufacturing plant in West Point. Kia and Kia suppliers are creating 6,500 new auto related jobs. Aflac is currently undergoing a $100 million, multi-phase expansion, creating 2,000 new jobs. Phase I & II are complete. Phase III will add a 100,000 SF building and employ approximately 700 customer service professionals.

The Columbus GA Trade Area contains more than 600,000 people and approximately $7 Billion in effective buying income. Columbus is the urban center of commerce for a 16 county trade area of west central Georgia and east central Alabama, and is the third largest city in Georgia with a population of nearly 200,000.
